Enhanced Third Party Testing Shows 99% Oil and Solids Removal, Further Validating OriginOil CLEAN-FRAC Process
Independent high-accuracy fluid imaging evidences dramatic reductions in both oil and suspended solids in petroleum-contaminated water after processing with OriginOil’s water cleanup system
Los Angeles, CA – April 26, 2013 – OriginOil, Inc. (OTC/BB: OOIL), the developer of a breakthrough energy production process for cleaning up oil & gas water, announced today that a highly accurate fluid imaging test reported a 99.9% reduction in free oil and a 99.5% reduction in suspended solids, further validating the OriginOil CLEAN-FRAC™ process for high-speed cleanup of frac flowback water and produced water.
Kent Peterson, president of the independent laboratory, Fluid Imaging Technologies, commented, “Wow! What compelling evidence of the efficacy of your system. There is simply little left to image!”
According to Ben Spaulding, Fluid Imaging Technologies’ Lab Manager, “The tests evidence a 99.9% reduction in dispersed oil and a 99.5% reduction in suspended solids. They show a dramatic decrease in oil and suspended particles.”
Spaulding continued: “In addition, the images of the CLEAN-FRAC treated sample contained much larger particles than images of the particles prior to processing. That is further evidence that this process successfully causes an agglomeration of small particles.”
Riggs Eckelberry, OriginOil CEO, said: “This is highly impressive. We now have a solid foundation for our claim that CLEAN-FRAC is potentially the most reliable first step for cleaning frack and produced water, period.”
Bill Charneski, general manager of OriginOil’s Oil and Gas Division, said, “Once again we are very happy to exceed industry expectations, with existing players like Halliburton promising 95-99% removal. Not only do we appear to be less expensive, but these tests indicate we may be more effective as well.
Charneski added, “Our licensing-only model also means that we are willing to share our technology widely, greatly enhancing access to our breakthrough technology.”
He also noted: “These PetroCAM test results are a valuable benchmark for us, because they correlate best with EPA Method 1664 for determination of oil and grease and non-polar material (NPM).”
According to Fluid Imaging Technologies, “PetroCAM combines superior optical engineering with state-of-the-art imaging analysis software, to accurately analyze the size and concentration of oil droplets and solid particles in fluids. Having the ability to discriminate oil from solids and solids from one another using particle shape, PetroCAM can instantly display size and shape of particle distributions, and also calculates concentrations for oil in water, as well as other particulate matter contained in fluids. The images enable automated measurements and allow for quantitative and qualitative review of the particle for greater process understanding.”
OriginOil’s CLEAN-FRAC system is a chemical free, continuous process that employs low-energy technologies to decontaminate frac flowback or produced water onsite at the oil field.
Previous field trials outside Bakersfield, California, indicated that organics, measured by Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), were reduced by as much as 99%.
