First OriginOil Licensee Completes Demonstration System Incorporating OriginOil’s EWS™ for the Treatment of Frack Water

Pearl H2O enters performance testing phase for 1500 barrel per day system for treating flowback water from the Monterey formation

Los Angeles, CA – July 15, 2014 – OriginOil Inc. (OTC/QB: OOIL), developer of Electro Water Separation™ (EWS), the high-speed, chemical-free process to clean up large quantities of water, announced today that Pearl H20, an affiliate of PACE and OriginOil’s first licensee, installed a commercial scale 1200 bbl/day Pearl Blue™ treatment system last month and began a performance testing phase for treating frac flowback and produced water from the Monterey shale formation.

The Pearl Blue treatment system embeds EWS into a complete mobile system which Pearl H20 believes is the most cost effective way to deliver a fracking fluid with no scaling salts. Removing scale is an essential step in recycling flowback water. Recycling water in this manner saves scarce California fresh water, and reduces the heavy trucking and disposal costs involved in hydraulic fracturing, or ‘fracking’.

The system is described in a brochure published by Pearl H20 and available at

“The Pearl Blue System is a complete engineered solution that provides the optimal treatment of flowback or produced water in a cost effective turnkey package. The system provides high quality treatment necessary for reuse, removes the majority of scaling salts, and provides a clear, odorless, oil free water ready for reuse ” said Andy Komor, VP of Environmental Water for PACE. “We are demonstrating the unit to a number of interested parties over the next few weeks and believe the demand for a system that efficiently cleans water continuously to our high standard is huge for the Oil and Gas Industry.”

“We are excited that our first licensee has built the first commercial scale system in the world that incorporates our EWS technology,” Bill Charneski, President of OriginOil’s Oil & Gas Division stated, “We have a great deal of confidence in the performance anticipated from Pearl Blue.”

Pearl H20 was the first company to participate in OriginOil’s “Powered by OriginOil™” strategy of deploying its unique technology across global markets to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) who will integrate it seamlessly into their systems and under their own brand.

“Pearl H20 has done an exceptional job of engineering our technology into its industrial-grade Pearl Blue system,” said Riggs Eckelberry, OriginOil CEO. “We intend to fully support their rollout of a system that specializes in de-scaling water for safe frack water recycling.”

Under the terms of the OEM agreement, OriginOil has granted a license to Pearl H2O to bundle OriginOil’s high-speed and chemical-free CLEAN-FRAC technology within Pearl H2O’s complete frac water cleanup system.
